Fan Layout and Card Movement

La Belle Lucie Fan Solitaire Classic departs from the standard seven-column solitaire arrangement. Cards are dealt into fan-shaped groups, and only the top card of each fan is available for play. You may move a top card onto another top card if it shares the same color and is exactly one rank lower. For instance, a red 7 can be placed on a red 8. This color-matching rule differs from alternating-color solitaire and forces you to plan several moves ahead. The game is controlled with a mouse or touch, making it accessible on both desktop and mobile devices.

Foundation Building and Empty Stack Rules

All cards must eventually reach the foundation piles, which build upward from Ace to King within the same suit. Empty stacks are not always free to use. In Easy and Casual modes, any card can fill an empty spot, giving you flexibility to reorganize the tableau. In Normal mode, only a King may occupy an empty stack, which significantly tightens your options. This single rule change alters the pace and difficulty of each session, rewarding players who can adapt their strategy.

Difficulty Settings and Session Flow

Three difficulty levels—Easy, Casual, and Normal—cater to different comfort levels. Easy and Casual reduce the penalty for emptying a stack, while Normal demands stricter sequencing. The game runs directly in a browser with no downloads, and a full-screen mode is available for focused play. The visuals are clean and family-safe, with no ads or distracting elements. Sessions are calm and methodical, suited to players who enjoy planning rather than fast reflexes.

Strategic Planning and Tableau Management

Because only top cards are movable, clearing a fan often requires uncovering buried cards in the right order. Freeing a stuck card may mean temporarily placing others on different fans, even if that blocks a future move. Keeping an eye on foundation progress helps you decide when to prioritize tableau reorganization over immediate foundation plays. Regular practice builds familiarity with common patterns, and over time you learn to anticipate which moves keep the most options open.
