One Piece, Many Problems

Rook Puzzle Challenge strips chess down to its most linear piece. You control only the rook, moving it horizontally or vertically across the board. The goal on every level is to capture all opponent pieces by landing on their squares. Because the rook cannot jump, each move must follow an open row or column, and every capture changes which paths remain available.

Traps and Board Layouts

Each level introduces a new arrangement of pieces and traps. Traps are squares that end your turn if you land on them, so they function as invisible walls until you learn the layout. The puzzle is less about speed and more about reading the board before you move. A capture that looks safe can leave your rook boxed in or force you onto a trap later.

Controls and Hints

Selecting the rook with a mouse or touch screen highlights the squares it can reach. Tapping any square in the same row or column moves the rook there. If you get stuck, a hint system suggests a move, which doubles as a way to learn new tactical patterns. A scoring system tracks your results and encourages replaying earlier levels for better scores.

Who It Suits

The game is designed to be non-violent and family-friendly, with colorful graphics and simple controls. Beginners can use it to internalize how a rook moves and captures. Experienced chess players get a narrower challenge: planning a route through a board where every step is irreversible. Difficulty rises as layouts grow more complex, but the rules never change.
